DataComm Lead Technician

Summary:

This position will require the Project technician to provide daily supervision and monitoring of several staff members. Coordination between the TECHNICIAN and Management is vital and critical to the success of this position. For all projects assigned, the TECHNICIAN must monitor technician installations. Watching every project from start to finish is crucial. The TECHNICIAN will also review each project prior to commencement, evaluating each project is imperative. When a mistake has been made in the estimating process, it is important that we identify it early so there is a chance to address the issue. Ensuring the project can be successful in the early stages is of the utmost importance. TECHNICIAN will be responsible to review the project with the management. The TECHNICIAN is also responsible for completing the Close out Job Package Check list and to participate in the Project Close Out meetings when necessary. A TECHNICIAN may be asked to manage more than one project at a time. A TECHNICIAN may also be asked to pre-field projects for the engineering team.

From conceptualization, design and engineering, to installation and programming, we become the single point of contact. The technician position may require weekend work, night shifts and out of town travel.

Below are a few key aspects of the position:

  • Review materials options and verify count accuracy
  • Review hours provided for each scope of work
  • Pick up staged materials and resources
  • Make sure your team is clear on their expectations and how they will execute
  • Make sure your team has the proper tools and resources to do the job
  • Make sure they keep the PS updated during the course of the project
  • Close out each project in a timely manner and get customer sign off
  • Email correspondence with customer and management

This leadership role must exhibit strong professionalism as the position is a direct reflection of the entire management team:

  • be a mentor and understand how to train both Technicians and Apprentices
  • take ownership of their projects
  • exercise discipline at all times. Following Berwick company policies
  • enforce Berwick policies at all times as well as adhere to Berwick standards in regards to project installation.

Daily Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate day-to-day operations with manager
  • Review and implement day-to-day schedules with Technicians, Apprentices and project coordinators
  • Forecast materials with manpower needs on each project
  • Review job plans with manager
  • Review floor plans and job documentation on all projects
  • Provide Quality Control
  • Perform installation per Berwick standards
  • Other duties as assigned

Financial Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for supervising and the completion of every project at estimated cost from engineering department
  • Understand that Berwick analyzes every job to determine true costs
  • Responsible for your team and every project assigned. It is essential that every project is fully evaluated and monitored to ensure profitability for the company
  • Generating Field Change Orders

Weekly Responsibilities:

  • Discussing project progress with the manger
  • Staying on track with projected hours
  • Complete Project Daily Job journals and turn in weekly to manager
  • Weekly Safety Meetings

Requirements and Experience:        

  • Industry education and experience required
  • Minimum ( 5-10 ) years direct related experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to remain calm and use sound judgment when addressing potentially volatile issues
  • Ability to operate as part of a team
  • Additional industry certifications a plus
